The Carpathian Mountains or the Carpathians are a range of mountains forming an arc of about 1,500 km long across Central and Eastern Europe. The Carpathian are the the second largest mountain range in Europe. 53% of the Carpathian Mountains are situated in Romania. 47% of Romanian territory is part of the Carpathian mountain range. The Romanian Carpathians are a popular tourist destination, but the touristic potential of the region has not been exhausted.
